Top Five Weirdest Moments in Personal Injury History

There are many strange moments throughout history that are sprinkled in every area of life. In the world of personal injury, this is no different. While some stories generate the reaction of ?I can?t believe that happened,? others have warranted the reaction of a simple, confused ?What?? The following moments listed below are sourced from Graphs.net and Visual.ly:

  • 1878: a grocer was compensated 734 Euros for slipping while playing Blind Man?s Bluff.
  • 1991: an American claimed for $10,000 against Budweiser, under the claim that drinking Budweiser caused him emotional stress and psychological trauma.

  • 2005: Austin Aitken filed a case against the television show Fear Factor. The show, which often portrays grotesque situations, made Austin nauseous after watching participants on the show eat rats. He did not get compensation due to incorrect explanation.
  • 2011: The client was driving in an open-top car when a cement vehicle spilled cement over the client and his car.

Five Myths

The negative connotation of personal injury claims lead to others who rightfully deserve compensation, but don?t seek it out due to the false rumors. Listed below are five such myths. Don?t let these falsehoods get in the way of your justice.

1.) You will always win. Unfortunately, not everyone receives compensation. Your claim may be deemed as inconclusive, like the case of Austin Aitken as listed above.

2.) You have to go to court if you want to get paid. It is much easier for cases to be settled outside of the court, which is the reason it is more common. Most never go to trial, which saves the claimant time and money.

3.) You don?t need lawyers. This is a myth because lawyers are specifically prepared to handle cases. Lawyers are also trained to be more accurate in regards to the amount of compensation, which is more reliable than an average estimate.

4.) Personal injury cases always involve excessive effort. Many think that common cases are complicated and a waste of time. Most cases are settled within a year, while cases take longer to be settled if the disagreements result in a trial.

5.) Every claim is frivolous. This myth is the result of media attention, which reports the frivolous cases to appear entertaining. Most claims are normal people who suffered injuries from legitimate accidents.

Even if your case is unusual, don?t hesitate to get the help you need. Don?t let negative myths get in the way of your compensation. If you or your loved one needs to make a personal injury claim, contact us here at Lowman Law for your accident claims.
