WASHINGTON (AP) ? Republicans are looking to downplay President Barack Obama's recent fundraising success -- and the $181 million that Obama and the Democratic party raised in September. It was the best fundraising month of the campaign for Obama.
Republican party chief Reince Priebus (ryns PREE'-bus) told CNN today, "We'll have all the money we need to be competitive." He said he's been counting all along on being outraised by Obama and Democrats.
Republicans haven't yet released their September fundraising totals.
Obama is looking to collect more campaign cash today and tomorrow in California. He's holding two fundraisers today in Los Angeles -- including one featuring actor George Clooney and musical guests Stevie Wonder, Jon Bon Jovi and Katy Perry. Former President Bill Clinton will join Obama at a small gathering at the home of entertainment mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Obama also has fundraisers in San Francisco and a rally in Columbus, Ohio, on the schedule as part of a three-day trip.
